Outlook 2016 Won’t Save Password for Exchange Account
Problem
Upon opening Outlook 2016, I get asked to type in the username and password- which I do and click the box for “Remember this password”. Everything works great until I restart the computer, then it asks me again.
The problem is that the saved credential in Credential Manager does not have Enterprise persistence. If you expand the credential in question, you will see that the Persistence is either Logon Session or Local. For me, the Generic Credential, which was responsible for the Outlook login loop, had the temporary Logon Session persistence.
Solution
- I copied the address for the credential in question in Credential Manager
- I then deleted that credential
- Added a new credential manually with the copied credential address
- Saved
- Restarted computer. No more logon prompt.
TL;DR
Manually creating the credential gave it Enterprise Peristence. If the Persistence of a credential is Enterprise, then it will be saved permanently.
