Dell Poweredge R300 Internal NIC Not Found
Symptom:
Internal NICs do not appear in device manager.
Internal NICs are enabled in the BIOS but the MAC address says “not available”
Solution:
Reset the NVRAM
Unplug the power
Remove the cover and move the NVRAM jumper (near the back of the case)
Plug in the power and count to 10
Unplug the power and put the jumper back
Replace the cover and start up the server
Now the MAC address should appear in the BIOS and the NICs will appear in the Windows device manager
Hi,
We had exactly the same issue with one of our servers, quite annoyingly.
After a while, I had rebooted and tried enabling/disabling the NIC from within the BIOS in various different combinations and eventually it started working again, the second time we weren’t so lucky.
That’s when I stumbled upon your article, and I just wanted to say THANK YOU. Moved the NVRAM jumper as you suggest and our problem went away.
I haven’t tried rebooting the server since as I have a feeling it’ll possibly happen again. Not entirely sure what causes it, but next time I do some maintenance to that machine i’ll try updating the BIOS.
