How to Shutdown or Restart through RDC on XP

Problem:

While connected to your Windows XP machine through Remote Desktop Connection (RDC), you can’t shut down and restart.  The option is not available.

Solution:

Click on the Desktop to select it.  Press Alt-F4 on your keyboard.  This brings up the option you are looking for.
